Israel...we were really there!
As a Christian we had always wanted to go to Israel but never dreamed this trip would actually happen. I was researching the country for a book that I am currently writing, so we decided now was the time. Stepping foot in Israel, I became a human sponge absorbing culture, sights, sounds, geography, the lay of the land, the feel of the breeze on the Sea of Galilee, the coolness of the water as we played in the waterfall at En Gedi, the coolness of the mineral rich mud of the Dead Sea and the buoyancy of floating on its salt rich water. The heat and lushness of a land so much desert wilderness. Taking spiritual steps of wonder touring Capernaum, Tabgha, Magdala, riding through the Jezreel Valley to get to Tel Megiddo, visiting Caesarea Maritima and splashing joyfully in the Mediterranean Sea beside the ruins of the hippodrome and viewing the ancient aqueduct were truly amazing but all paled in comparison to riding into Jerusalem. What a moment. What a spiritual blessing it was to enter this city so distinguished in my faith. To stand on the Mount of Olives, to visit the Garden of Gethsemane, to take communion at the Garden Tomb and stand inside the tomb itself, to pray at the Western Wall and to sit on the steps of the temple and sing songs of praise...it was easily THE trip of my lifetime.
